Our overall pass rate ranges from 80-85 % (this is
calculated on a rolling annual basis) but recently we have found a way of
bringing this up to 90 -95%!
We only do modular courses (as opposed to lessons) which are
18 or 20 hours in duration. Because you are on a course it is easy for you to
understand how you are progressing and if you require extra work in a
particular area. You will never be mixed with a rider of a different level. Our
course constantly evolves to accommodate changing test and training regimes.
We will, in exceptional circumstances, reduce the course
content (and cost) based on a riders skill and knowledge.
If there is a requirement we will teach you on a one to one
basis at no extra charge. (Please note
that this does not extend to language issues. If you think in a foreign
language and translate to English there would be an extra cost, please phone to
discuss. Welsh and Gaelic excepted)
Your first lesson
is merely an introduction to the big bike, you will cover about 25 miles and
you are very much in charge of the progress. All we want from this lesson is
smile on your face!
Open road riding
lesson picks up from the introduction and is the Llangollen run described
below. We start with a ½ hour talk and description of the ride. We introduce
you to setting up for bends and understanding the impact that you have on the motorcycle’s
stability. We then gradually build you into the ride starting with 30 and 40
mph roads then progressing you to 50 and 60 mph dual carriageways where your
speed is encouraged as your confidence grows.
A, B, and C grade roads
Single track country lanes
High bridges (dealing with cross winds if the weather
complies)
Reduced grip surfaces (if the weather complies)
Adverse camber bends.
A steep descent mountain pass.
Major trunk dual carriageways where you will (hopefully) be
cruising at 70 mph, dealing with on and off ramps and overtaking.
Town and City riding.
During this run we will cover approximately 10 – 15 miles of
potential mod 2 test route.
This is a 100 mile ride and is a great experience giver and
great fun.
At the end of this run we will have a good idea of who you
are as a rider and then we can discuss and plan the rest of the course.
Please
note we would never push a rider on to the Llangollen run. If you are not ready
for it we will adapt the course.
Our next lesson
is the hardest of all. This is where we will introduce you to advanced clutch
control and balance. Then freestyle practise for the mod 1 test and practise
how those skills can be used on the road. We will cover emergency stops, hill
starts and difficult and obscured junctions. About 60% of our customers come
back to do this session again.
The next time
we meet is at St Helens Module one test Centre where you will practise on the
actual mod one test area.
You are now ready
for the Mod one test itself. We meet at
the shop and ride out to the test centre. On the way we will divert to have a
10 minute practise of low speed manoeuvres and emergency stops to help damp
down those last minute nerves.
Having passed your
Mod 1 test
Our next session
is a 3 hour run to the outskirts of Chester where you are introduced to the
areas you will be taking your mod 2 test in. We don’t show you the test routes
(there are 16 of them!) but we do introduce you to the pit falls that others
have fallen into and let you get a feel for the more complicated bits you might
encounter.
The final time
we meet is an hour and a half before your test when we ride out to the test
centre.
When you are presented for your mod 2 test you will have
ridden approximately 270 to 300 miles.
The above course, when completed shows a return of 80 to 85
% passes.
We have noted
recently that riders who booked for an extra 2 hours as close to the test as
possible almost universally went on to pass. Whilst there is no such thing as a
guaranteed pass, since we started monitoring this we have had 15 passes and
only 1 fail.
We always listen carefully to the examiners debrief of your
test, after all, it is our quality control of your training!
We have a broad range of machines available, including
50cc (Moped)
125cc geared (A1)
125cc scooter (A1)
500cc geared (A2)
600cc auto (A2)
800cc geared
800cc geared with lowered saddle height (26” inside leg measurement can
cope with this bike)
Our whole
geared fleet is less than 2 years old.
N.B. Moped and 125 (A1) test training does not go to
Llangollen. Please phone and we will tailor the course to your requirements.
